Cityhall – Front (Loving Aachen VI)

Staircase of the Cityhall

The palace of Charlemagne was at one point too damaged and rotten to rebuild it, so the people of medieval Aachen decided to construct a cityhall in its stead. Here you see the front entrance; the picture beneath shows the whole front. You can see the Granusturm (Granus-Tower) on the left, the only part that still dates back to Charlemagnes times:
