A Porch with a Devils thumb (Loving Aachen II)

Another thing to love about Aachen: the myths. One of those tells us, that the Dom cost so much money the people of Aachen had to strike a bargain with the devil. He financed the rest but the heart of the first soul which passed the main gate would be his. So when the people drove a wolf inside, the devil saw himself betrayed and slamed the door so hard his thumb became stuck inside the handle – and has been there ever since. (The doors date back to 800 after Christ, so does the lighter part of the building.)
